Parachuting and more aerial displays for this post. Most of the pics shot using my zoom lens 70-210mm. As usual this was the crowd-pleaser segment as the parachutist come gliding into the floating platform and the fighter planes zip through the air in synchronized timing.

*some of the photos had to go through editing as the colours when taken were pretty flat. it's a little exaggerated, but i guess it makes the photos a little more artistic.

Thanks to my best bud, I managed to get my hand on some NDP preview tics (coz he knows i want to take some pics of the parade). So I lugged my camera equipments and readied myself for lots of photo-taking!

Even before the parade I was already disappointed by a bad experience. Before entering the NDP grounds, we had to throw away all bottled waters, or were expected to pour away all liquids, aerosols etc. zzzzzzzz. Don't see the reason to, and I actually wanted to take a picture, but the security guy looked really scary.

I had a half day so we decided and planned to take a trip to the National Museum of Singapore. It's been a longlong time since I've set foot into this place and since they renovated the place. It was a good chance to spend time together and for me to use my camera (which I haven't touched in a while).

We were given a control pad during the tour of "Treasures of the National Museum" which is about the history of Singapore from it's beginning. As you walk through the gallery, you just follow the number on the floor, and key in the numbers on the cool green control pad in your hand, and there'll be an audio commentary. Cool eh?

Adding the finishing touches and even a swimming pool? That's a lot of effort.

After that it was capped off with a bicycle ride down East Coast and to get more burnt. It was an enjoyable day playing with sand even though we're grown up. And it's nice to see other people coming to our sandcastles and taking photos of it. Got some standard k? haha.

we were being split into 2 groups and given about an hour and a half to build a sandcastle. Tools were provided and we settled down to think through what we were going to build. But honestly when my group started building, we didnt have much of an idea. So we just started piling up sand and water, sand and water, sand and water. Pretty much like baking a cake.

The other group though seemed to have a plan, quickly building a small castle at the beginning. Or maybe they were just testing it out.

Anyway, they had some serious discussion and planning. And three heads is better than, erm, two?

Or maybe two is still better?

Oh well, maybe i'll just build this myself.

it's always great to have the camera handy, as this myna posed on the window ledge for me. The photo ain't that great 'cause i was shooting through a tainted window.

haha. so proud of myself and my handiwork. above is a hand-made butterfly (that actually looks like a real butterfly when pulled) for a very special someone. the idea came to me whilst sitting under a tree. so i chose and plucked a nice leaf, poked some holes and threaded a string through it (so glad i have weird things/rubbish in my bag). so when u pull on the strings, the leaf actually looks like wings of a butterfly flapping. whee!

Tried out the new Jap restaurant that's somewhat like Marche style, Sho-ku-do. Ok, i dunno what's the buzz about this place, don't know is it because of the place or food, or that people just following the crowd. For a jap foodie as me, this place was rather a disappointment. The place was rather messy and difficult to navigate with all the crowd. Everyone was just walking everywhere. To give them some credit, the food is still not that bad. (But i know better places!) However the prices are a little steep for the portioning.

Well, the best is for you yourself to try it and judge. But I wouldn't really recommend it to my close friends. It's just another hype where everyone is flocking to one place. I thought some time ago there was a dough nut shop that was very popular? i wonder what happened to it.

OK! Let's not forget mine's a photo blog before a food blog! haha.

this is a pretty odd post cause it's just photos that i've taken today. (never mind if you don't understand). the first 2 is a snap-shot of the old court house as i rushed past it today.

In the evening my bro asked me to help him cook dinner for the family and be his assistant, while he taught me the things he learned in school and at work. because he injured his finger, i helped to prepare the ingredients and we both got down to cooking pasta! both of us ready at the stove and each cooking different pasta at the same time. i did the carbonara cream pasta while he did the chicken in pesto sauce pasta.

and to top it off, we opened a bottle of ice wine given by my aunt. i've been wanting to try this wine ever since i started working in D** (secret..haha). visit this website for info on the wine. http://www.inniskillin.com/en/ice/index.asp?location=ice . it's really good and the sweetness is just nicely balanced. even though i'm not a wine expert or anything, this will be one of my favs. *but it is really expensive*.

14/06/07 - after the warm afternoon at the floating market, it was off to a much cooler place, the underwater world. and guess what? their underwater world is in the basement of a large shopping centre, Paragon!! and looking at the amount of marine life and the size of the underwater world, it really gives Sentosa's something to think about. taking pictures of fishes in tanks really aint easy with the thick glasses and sometimes very bad lighting. well, i gave it my best shots, and here's some of the more interesting (and clearer) shots.

14/06/07 - second day in Thailand and it was bright and early for everyone, including the kids. the second pic for me will be a classic photo of the 3 kids, and so i decided to edit it as an old photo. then it was off to the floating market. didnt get much good photos because i was busy eating a bowl of noodles, and most of the pictures turned out pretty disappointing. so in this series i've put up instead, photos of the people who make up the floating market, those living along the river, and those making a living on the river, or even juz enjoying themselves by the river. hope you enjoy too.

this is the second part of the trip to botanical gardens (except the first pic). these are just some random shots taken while walking around the garden. there wasn't really much that interested me in taking, other then the flowers. but hopefully will be making another trip down and can take some nicer and more meaningful pictures.

Took a trip to botanical gardens with her a few days back, and totally enjoyed ourselves there. the photos will be in 2 parts; flowers, and others. The first one is the many different flowers that i took along the way. i went to this jap restaurant, aburiya, at robertson quay to celebrate my bro's birthday yesterday, and these was what we had (some of them):

spinach salad with bacon
great starter to the meal. light and tasty to get the salivary glands working.

BBQ pork belly w sweet-sauce coated corn
pork belly and wagyu beef chunks grilled over a small fire and done however you like.
Together with the corn which is coated with a sweet sauce, the burnt parts taste esp sweet and deliiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiicious!!

grilled triangle rice-cake
normal sushi rice cake, but grilled over fire. pour their special soya sauce over it during grilling makes the end product even more tasty and shiok! crispy sweet on the outside, soft salty on the inside!

duck foie gras
foie gras is placed in an aluminium wrap with a piece of butter and heated over the fire.

this is the first time i've eaten foie gras. this one is oily, super oily. and it's actually like soft fat. it just melts in your mouth, and it's all butter and oil taste. eeee. not another piece for me! my bro enjoys it though.

went with my friend to liang court (old diamaru shopping centre) yesterday to walk around and eat some japenese food. whoo. name of the restaurant is tomton i think. food is almost excellent, and remember to bring extra cash (cause it's not exactly cheap too). but it is really quite worth it.

An outing to kelong (part 2)

when we got to the kelong, we were just in time to see the workers washing the oysters in the baskets. the oysters get quite dirty from the mud and sea stuffs, and has to be washed about twice a week.

the smaller oyster at the back is the one harvested from the farm itself, however the HUGE one at the front, is picked up along the shores of Ubin. that certainly looks scary, and is as large as the whole palm!
this small little things are the baby oysters. they are so tiny and minute that you would never imagine them to be oysters, but broken pieces of seashells. (warning: prolonged staring of the picture below may cause dizziness and blurness of sight!!)
well, after looking at the oysters, there wasn't much left to do, so we decided to try our luck (and patience) at fishing. but unluckily we caught nothing other then feeding the fishes with our bait.
anyways, here's another view of the kelong. i hope i can go back there again and just enjoy the sea and the breeze and the....sun? got burnt pretty badly so i've got to remember to bring sun-block lotion the next time i go.

An outing to kelong (part 1)

Yesterday, i took a trip down to visit my dude's dad's oyster farm. firstly we had to take a boat to pulau ubin (apparently i haven't been to ubin before! haha), and then another boat ride to the farm(kelong) itself.
ubin is just a quiet village with laid-back pace of life, with kampong housings and bicycle rental shops, and a few shophouses selling drinks and foodstuffs. But i didn't really get to walk much of the village cause we were heading to the kelong!
while waiting for the boat to the kelong, i noticed these huge fences along the beach. apparently it's for keeping the illegal swimmers from swimming into ubin (and then singapore). looks pretty scary though, like keeping out some sea mongster.
and well, actually the kelong is just a simple affair, and since this is the first time on a kelong, i'm gonna enjoy myself.

just some simple shots i took during my attachment in Guilin, China. it was a nice day with blue skies and fluffy white clouds, so i just whipped out my camera and tooke some random shots. tried and played around with some basic editing to test out the effects.

these are some of the better photos i took out on a trip to Pulau Redang in 2006, really nice place with white sandy beaches and crystal clear waters (not joking).
will be adding more in the near future.
